حضرَت یعقُوب علیہ الاسلام { عبرانی میں دھوکے باز ، حق مارنے والا } تُورات کے مُطابق آپ ۲۰۰۰ کے لگ بھگ کنعان میں حضرتِ اِضحاق کے ہاں پیدا ہُوئے۔ لہذا آپ یعقُوب بن اِضحاق بن اِبراہام ٹھہرے۔ قُرانِ پاک میں آپکا ذِکر دس سُورتوں { بقرہ، آل عمران، اَلنساء، الانعام، ھود، یُوسف، مریم، الانبیاء، العنکبُوت، ص، } میں آیا ہے۔ بائیبل مُقَدّس { تُورات } میں پیدائیش میں آپ کا مُفَصّل حال درج ہے۔ آپکی شادی آپکے ماموں کی دو بیٹیوں، لِیاہ اور راخل سے ہُوئی۔ خُدا تعالے۱ نے آپکو بارہ بیٹے اور ایک بیٹی عطا کی اور آپ کو اِسرائیل کا لقب دیا۔ آپکے بڑے بیٹے کا نام یہُوداہ تھا، اسی مُناسبت سے بنی اِسرائیل یہُودی بھی کہلائے۔ بائیبل مُقَدّس میں خُدا تعالے۱ کو اِبراھام ، اِضحاق اور یعقُوب کا خُدا کہ کر بھی پُکارا گیا ہے۔ آپ کو یہ اِمتیاز ی حق حاصل ہُوا کہ بائبل مُقَدّس میں مَذکُور تمام انبیاء آپ کی قوم بنی اسرائیل ہی میں سے آئے۔ حَضرت یعقُوب علیہ الاسلام نے ۱۳۰ سال کی عُمر میں { ۱۸۵۳ کے لگ بھگ } وفات پائی اور حبرُون کے قریب مکفیلہ مین اپنے آبائی قبرستان میں دفن ہُوئے۔
